Publishers Description: Dancing with the gods- the making of a hero. -A true story of Irene Gleeson’s heritage. With courage gleaned from corroboree grounds of outback Australia, to Balmoral beach –Tea-dances; past the Trocadero ballroom with US marines, to Campsie dance-classes, -to Wiggles on Dee Why Beach and onto funeral dirges in the shadow of the Sudan Mountains; -Irene Gleeson daily faces death as she rescues 1000's of African orphans from rebels and witchcraft. What genes did she inherit from her Aboriginal great-grandmother, her mixed race grandmother, her half Irish mother and Swede American father that gave Irene the empathy and the tenacity for this role? What spiritual influences pervaded the heaven-lies causing good and evil in the successive generations? This autobiography 'Dance of the Tragic Heroines' traces six generations of Australian women searching for love in all the wrong places. In May 2010 Irene Gleeson received the medal for the Officer of the Order of Australia for service to international relations, particularly through sustained aid for children affected by war and HIV/AIDS in north Uganda.
