Publishers Description: In this beautiful book for children and young adults, compiled by Isobel, the reproductions tell a very special true story never previously told. In 1788, Nanbaree watched the First Fleet sail into Sydney Harbour. He was adopted by Surgeon White and became a key person in the life of the early colony. Nanbaree acted as an interpreter for Governor Phillip and his own countrymen. The artist, Thomas Watling, was assigned to illustrate White's collection of plants and animals. The talented forger also drew delightful portraits of Nanbaree, his family and friends and scenes of their life on Sydney Harbour. The Watling Collection is in the British Museum of Natural History, and is now presented here for the first time. Nanbaree and Thomas Watling, who shared the same household 200 years ago, are now given their rightful place in Australian history.
